Making Music In Marathon: Part 2
By Durandal

In the February issue of Marathon Magazine, I briefly discussed what format the Music file is in, etc. In the 2nd part of this text, I would like to discuss a great way of making Quicktime 2.0 music files; by MIDI. Included in this issue of Marathon Magazine are two utilities: "All Midi" & "MultiMusicMovieMaker" both by paulcho@io.org. A smaller Application "Marathon Music Typer" was a hack that I made using "FileTyper" by dazuma@cco.caltech.edu

"All Midi" is a utility which will convert from traditional, run-of-the-mill, every-day, standard, normal (Have I made myself clear?) MIDI files, and converts them into Quicktime 2.0 Music files (Also called QT2 MIDI files). It is a drag-and-drop application. Read the readme for more info.

Once you have several QT2 MIDI files, you're ready to put them all into one big file. Simply drag them all (at the same time) into "MultiMusicMovieMaker", and it'll do just that for you. Consult the readme for more info.

"Marathon Music Typer" is a drag and drop utility that will convert the file "MultiMusicMovieMaker" made into Marathon's music file type. This isn't really required, if you don't care about the icon.

"So how do I make a standard MIDI?" you ask? Well, if you have a MIDI card & keyboard, you have the luxury of being able to create your own. For those less fortunate, there are zillions of MIDI files on the Internet ripe for the picking. Make collections of your favorite songs! Just always remember to credit the original author.
